Day 5, 12-30-08

Dear blog,
I have a confession to make. I haven't been totally honest about my food intake. I have been sneaking Screaming Dill Pickle Pringles every night. While I am writing to you! I will promise to do better. I will not have any more chips (because I ate them all).

At least I have continued to meet my fitness goals. Today I did 17 minutes of one of The Firm tapes. I love those workouts. Man, do you feel them! They are some of my favorites. I also did NINE (girly) push ups today! Making progress. Total steps for today so far is 6414. Not bad for not leaving the house. When it gets close to bedtime and I haven't reached my step goal, I run around the house in circles. My daughter thinks it's hilarious and chases me. So funny.

I feel good about my food choices today.
Breakfast: Hubby made me breakfast this morning. 2 eggs and some hashbrowns. As always, some yoplait later.
Lunch: Turkey on whole wheat, with cucumbers and spinach leaves, and a bowl of tomato soup.
Snacks: Baby carrots and some apple slices
Dinner: This citrus chicken recipehttp://www.kraftfoods.com/kf/recipes/citrus-crunch-chicken-63097.aspx I have to say, I didn't love it. I had a small serving of pasta, and lots of brussel sprouts. I also had a spinach salad loaded with veggies while it was cooking.

No dill pickle chips at all! Man, those are good. I can never buy them again!

Goals for tomorrow:
At least 18 minutes of exercise, add to my steps, and keep up with the 5 servings of the good stuff.

Day 4,12-29-08

Lazy day here. Not much to report. Light house cleaning. I also want to declutter my house in 2009. I began with the mess of DVD's over our TV. I organized everything. It looks great. I also discovered I own 28 workout DVD's. I can almost have a new one for everyday of the month. Which is what I think I will do. Today I did 16 minutes of Burn and Firm Pilates. I also met my step goals. As of right now, I have 6032 steps on the pedometer. I also managed to sneak in my veggies.
Breakfast: oatmeal, yogurt and coffee and creamer
Lunch: I put the leftovers from my fajitas yesterday on a bed of spinach leaves. I added some cheese, salsa, and a couple chips for crunch. It was delish.
Snack: Baby carrots
Dinner: Went to Ruby Tuesday's with my cousin. Started with a big salad from the bar. I piled on mushrooms, cucumbers, tomatoes, endamame...the works. But I also had a turkey burger with it. I did take off the bun, but it was still smothered in cheese. Man, I love to eat. I did show some self-control with the fries, and only had a handful. Hey, it is progress.

Goals for tomorrow:
Exercise for at least 17 minutes.
Add to my steps
Eat all my veggies

Day 3, 12-28-08-The beginning statistics

Well, I was going to post my starting weight, but I can't bring myself to put it out there on the Internet just yet. But I did add some pics, so my hot "after" pics will have that much more of an impact. In the first pic, I am in the black and white shirt in the middle. I have not worn that shirt since I saw this pic. It's just not flattering. The second pic is from Thanksgiving. I am the one on the left. That shirt isn't too flattering....okay, maybe it's not the shirts. Anyway, these are 2 of the only recent pics I have of me. I have avoided the camera like the plague since my second child was born in 2006. Hopefully, that will change soon, and we can have some family pictures made.

Goals:
I met my exercise goals today. I exercised for 15 mintues to Gilad's Bodies in Motion. I have logged 5761 steps so far tonight. I even did as many push-ups as I could (only 5, and they were the girly one!) Tomorrow's goals will be to exercise for at least 16 minutes, add more steps, and maybe an extra push-up or two! I am obviously not expecting Biggest Loser type results. Just trying to get to MOVE more often.

Diet:
Breakfast-2 eggs, piece of toast w/ jam, and yogurt. Oh, and coffee w/ creamer.
Lunch-Well, hubby INSISTED on going to a Mexican restaurant. I planned to only have a few chips, but the salsa was sooooo good. But I did get the fajitas! That's better than the Super Burrito that I wanted. I only had 2. Okay, I lied. I had 3. But so sour cream OR cheese! Baby steps. I took most home and will have a fajita salad tomorrow.
Dinner-Turkey sandwich on whole wheat, carrot sticks, and an apple. See, I recovered well from lunch. The "old" me would have said that today is shot and would have eaten everything in the house.
I did meet my goal of 3 servings of veggies/fruits. I will continue that tomorrow, and up it to 5.

12-27-08 Day 2

Well...so far, so good. I reached the tiny goals I set for myself. I walked for about 15 minutes pulling the kids in the wagon. And I ended up with 5047 steps last night on my pedometer, so today I made sure I had more. And I do with 5267. Baby steps. I really need to grocery shop, so my meals were whatever was on hand.
Breakfast
Quaker Oats weight control oatmeal
Yolplait light yogurt
Coffee with creamer
Lunch
Some leftover crap dip and crackers
Breaded chicken sandwich with cheese
Snack
carrot sticks (hey, THAT's healthy, at least!)
Dinner
Went to my mom's for a "pizza party" for the kids. I had 2 slices of cheese and tomato pizza and 2 breadsticks (one with cheese). Not exactly diet food, but believe me, I've done worse. However, the garlic butter sauce I dipped the breadsticks in was probably not calorie-free!

Baby step goals for tomorrow are to exercise at least 15 minutes and walk more steps than I did today. I think I can handle that! Diet goals will be to eat at least 3 servings of fruits/veggies.

12-26-08

I have decided to blog about my weight loss journey. I came to this decision for several reasons. One, I wanted to keep a log of what I eat and how I exercise. Two, I wanted accountability. Figured this would help keep me on track. And if it helps someone else along the way, too, that's wonderful.

I have set a goal of losing 60 pounds by December 26, 2009. That would come to 5 pounds a month. Sounds like a reasonable goal. Easy, even, for some people. Except I have not been able to do this before. So to me it's big deal. I didn't want to make in a New Year's resolution, because those never last. So I started early on my journey. I have decided that my mantra will be Do Something More. I will start slow. Very slow. And just each day I will do something more. Maybe in the past I have set myself for failure by doing too much too soon, and I can't keep it up. Perhaps by slowing adding positive changes, I can create a healthier lifestyle.

So....Day 1.
I started wearing a pedometer a few days ago. I noticed over the last 2 days that averaged less than 5000 steps a day. So today my small goal is to do more than that, just 5000 steps. And I took a break from cleaning the Christmas mess to do 10 minutes of Gilad's Bodies in Motion. Small steps.
Tomorrow my goal will be to do more than 10 minutes of exercise and more than 5000 steps.

I still haven't figured out my diet plan, other than to take in fewer calories. Today wasn't great, calorie wise, but no mindless binge eating. So that's a start.
